Please help the Navajo Nation
On March 11th
The Navajo Nation has declared a state of emergency and stay-at-home orders were given by the Navajo Nation President Jonathan Nez.
Strict weekend (Friday 8 pm – Monday 5 am) curfews were enforced. If pulled over by the Navajo Nation Police, one faces a $1,500 fine and ticket. Bordertowns near the Navajo Nation have enacted curfews and strict times to which stores can be open.
If you have watched the news and seen the Navajo Nation has been featured and shown to have the highest rate of confirmed cases in the US.
As of May 15th
The Navajo Nation has order all grocery stores and gas stations closed within Diné Bikéyah. Dikos Ntsaaígíí-19 (‘Coronavirus Disease of 2019: COVID-19’) has greatly impacted not only the Navajo Nation but the globe altogether.
The restrictions that have been placed have limited access to grocery stores, gas stations, water depots, supplies, and hospital visits too.
What can we do?
Challenges
The restrictions limit access for elders who need supplies, water and feed for their animals, as well as sustenance. Many have to drive anywhere from 1 to 3 hours to get to the nearest town for the items above. Since many Diné families live together, the possibility of spread is now more evident than ever.
Luckily….
There are a few brave individuals, volunteers and organizations who are willing to extend their help and address the situation of providing food and much needed supplies to those in need.
